Hello! Welcome to 5th and 6th grade Language Arts. I'm Traci Keith. This is my eighth year at Gorman and my seventh year to teach Language Arts. My two boys go to school here also. Matt is a ninth grader and Aaron is a senior. My daughter, Nikki is attending Tarleton State University. I really enjoy teaching Reading. This subject allows me the opportunity to really get to know the students.
My goal as a Reading teacher is not only to help each student become better at the mechanics of reading, but also to grow to love reading more and to appreciate the power reading gives us. Throughout out the year the 5th graders will predominately read from the McGraw Hill Reading Series. In addition to the series, the 5th graders will read at least three novels as a class. The majority of the 6th graders' materials will come from novels. They will be reading several. During the 6th grade year, I feel that the students should be making a transition from the reading series used in lower grades to novels in preparation junior and senior high. It is my hope that each student will not only be a better reader, but will enjoy it more and understand how important reading skills are to success in the world around us. I look forward each year to sharing with a great group of kids.
