Welcome to third grade! Third graders are clearly “moving on up”! In third grade you are ready to put your reading and math computation skills to work. In kindergarten through second grade you are learning to read, but in third grade you are “reading to learn.” You will use your reading ability to learn about your world in science and social studies.
Your talent for adding, subtracting, and multiplying will be used to solve more complex word problems in math. By the end of third grade you will be ready to measure your efficiency in reading and math on the state wide TAKS Test.
We work hard but we also have fun! Our unit on bicycle and pedestrian safety climaxes with a trip to Safety City in Abilene where you will not only practice your bike safety, but you will use miniature battery powered cars to prove your understanding of traffic lights, road lanes, and road signs.
Third grade provides a number of challenges, but the personal growth and confidence that you gain will be a valuable foundation for future academic success.
