¡Hola! My name is Lacy Majors and I am the high school Spanish and ESL teacher. This is my fifth year at Gorman High School. I teach Spanish I through Spanish III. I chose Spanish because I am very interested in and fascinated by the Hispanic culture and the Spanish language. I also feel it is very important that students understand the importance of being bilingual. So many more doors of opportunity will be opened simply by being fluent in the Spanish language. My other teaching field, ESL, serves as a great challenge to me. Non-English speaking students who enter the U.S. education system are faced with many tough challenges. It is up to us as teachers to ensure they have every opportunity to learn the English language and to be successful. Through ESL, I can help them to reach these goals.
In Spanish I, we begin our journey into the world of the Spanish language. We focus on learning basic everyday conversation skills and basic grammar. We also begin our study of the Hispanic culture. In Spanish II, we continue on our journey, adding to our vocabulary and focusing more on reading and writing the Spanish language. In Spanish III, we place more emphasis on conversing in the Spanish language and we complete a deeper study into the Hispanic culture. In ESL, the goals vary depending on the student. The focus is on learning basic communication skills in English and in understanding and meeting the basic objectives in the student's core classes.
